As more insulin is brought in, the normal levels are further affected. The sugar content in the blood increases, which starts to attack your arteries, nerves, and brain cells. And if that's not terrible enough, this will lead to type 2 diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure. Of course, these symptoms eventually lead to heart disease.

It's rather simple to find out. Take a tape measure and measure around the top of your hip bone. Depending on your BMI, if you are a man, below 39 inches in circumference is considered safe. For women, under 34 inches is relatively acceptable. Measurements above this poses a risk.
